It’s official - mark your calendars for July 25
Well, the speculation is finally over. Fox announced today that the sequel to the X-Files movie is really going to happen. They plan on starting production December 10 with a predicted release date of July 25, 2008. The LA Times posted their article today saying, “The rumors were right!”. The announcement by 20th Century Fox confirms David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will both return and the “supernatural thriller” will be directed by series creator Chris Carter.
I have scoured the Internet and find no leaks on the script. It appears they are keeping the story line very hush hush. Although I am reading the plot will not be a continuation of the last movie or series. It will be more of a stand-alone movie. That is probably a good thing since I don’t recall much from the last movie. I remember being disappointed and that is most likely why the plot escapes me at the moment.
A release only 7 months after production starts sound quick, but I am holding out hope this movie is all that they are promising. It would be nice to resolve some of those long-standing issues and see what develops between Mulder and Scully after all this time.
