No babies from the second clutch
Day 80 was Tuesday and I’m positive the last egg isn’t going to hatch. I was at the pet store last week getting crickets and asked them about why the eggs may not have hatched. They asked about humidity and temperature, lighting and movement. All of my answers were right - I had done everything right.
When I bought the vermiculite back in March, I grabbed two small bags from Lowe’s since that is all I could find. I didn’t read the bags thoroughly. I just saw vermiculite and bought it. I don’t know if there are different types or if some have other things mixed in (like fertilizer). If so, and I grabbed one of those mixed bags, that may explain what happened to the eggs.
I unplugged the Hovabator today. We have no more eggs waiting to hatch. Just in case Trinity has another clutch this year, I am feeding her a bit more calcium and watching to be sure Neo doesn’t hog all of the food. If she starts showing signs of carrying more eggs, I will get all new substrate and new gladware that’s never been through the dishwasher.
