Holding out hope for one egg
Well, it looks like all of the eggs from the second clutch have gone bad. There is one that’s still white, but the others are all starting to turn brown and shrivel. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this last one. If it manages to hatch, I’ll hang on to the little guy since it will be the only one to finally make it.
I’m not sure why the eggs are failing to hatch. The first set I could understand since they were laid in the bearded dragon cage and I didn’t get to them until after they were kicked around. This set though, I put Trinity in a nesting cage. I was very careful not to turn the eggs when I put them in the incubator. I’ve kept the incubator in the same spot keeping the temperature and humidity within the recommended limits. I even restrained myself from opening the lid except for once a week to check the containers for moisture in the vermiculite.
How very disappointing that so far we haven’t had any bearded dragon eggs hatch.
Maybe the third time will be the charm if Trin has another clutch.

Hi, i dont even know if this reply is going to get to you but i decided to try anyway. I have that same incubator (from pet bazzar as well:) and my bearded dragon layed 2 clutches within 2 months of each other and they are both in the incubator going strong. The first clutch should hatch within in the next two weeks…the things i learned to do that may help you are as follows; first i always make sure when i mist them to make sure the humity stays high, i take the lid off the tuperware container and spray the vermiclite around the eggs. i dont know if you used vermiculite or just sand and dirt mixed…either way i heard both was fine but vermiculite (buy at home depot in big bag- white fluffy lookin stuff) holds moisture a lot better. Also- another thing which i read online was when the eggs are about to hatch they actually sink in a little and a lot of people think that means the eggs have gone bad but in all actuality thats normal before the little babies pop their little heads out. If you have anymore questions please do email me. im no breeder or anything but if you have a question that i cant answer i have breeders phone number and i never hesitate to call pet bazzar (theyre awesome and seem to never mind answering questions). Hopefully i helped at all in the slightest bit. Good luck!

Hi Christina, thanks for the note! I love Pet Bazaar. Those guys are awesome and take so much time to answer questions. I used vermiculite, but the only place I could find it back in March was Lowe’s. Mine was dark and looked like dirt. I read a few places that sometimes it has chemicals in it. I’m wondering now if maybe I got a bag with something else mixed in. I’ve long since tossed the bag so I can’t check. If Trinity has any more eggs, I’ll get all new substrate. I did take the lids off and mist. I also kept water in the tray of the hovabator. One thing I did break down and buy was the digital thermometer/hygrometer combo. That way I could see the humidity and temperature through the window. And, I knew it was accurate.
I held onto both clutches until they reached day 80. At that point, it was obvious they weren’t going to hatch.
I’d love to hear how yours turn out. Stop back by and post after they hatch. Baby beardies are the best!
Jodi
Wow you wrote back fast!
Well it seems as though you did the right things. Also, fyi- I read and heard that a lot of bearded dragons don’t do well with their first few clutches, the eggs were never really fertalized. That was probably the case with your eggs.
And I will def. keep you updated with my baby’s eggs…just noticed today she’s going to be ready in about week to lay some more for me. Her belly is lookin egg-filled again. Crazy huh’?! I just found out that off of one mating they can lay eggs from the same sperm for up to 5months. Craziness…but I’m ready for it.
I’ll keep you posted
Christina
She just layed 17 more yesterday. That’s a total of 54 eggs in the incubator. I hope she’s done because I feel bad for her…anyway, just had to keep you informed
Oh how exciting! Good luck on all 3 clutches!!
IM A MOMMY
2 of my beardies poked they’re little heads out this morning!! It’s very very exciting!! There’s still 16 more in this clutch that have to hatch…but its only been 64 days and most hatch between 65-75 days so ill give the others some more time. It’s so funny though because they don’t seem to want to come out of the cozy comfy warm jelly filled eggs…lol
Just wanted to keep you informed
Congratulations! I’m so happy for you. I’ve read it can take 24-48 hours for them to finally start walking around after they first poke through. I am sure it will be no time before you have a very active cage full of babies.
Theyre all out and in a tank!! Ive seen two eat so far and it is hilarious. At first they are afraid of the little crickets and then they attack!
They are already starting to show some very nice colors…i love them all
Anyway, had to keep you informed…
hi everyone im having problems knowing what to do when my dragon lays eggs the thing is up until 2 months ago i believed my female dragon was a male until 1 day we woke up to see her laying eggs at that time we only had 1 dragon we went and bought another a couple of weeks latter and they got on very well straight away she laid her second lot of eggs 3 weeks ago but when we checked them all eggs were damaged what we do to stop this fromhappening again and how is before the eggs hatch
From what I know- All female beardies lay eggs even without a male. There’s nothing you can do. If you are positive she hasn’t been with a male and the eggs are not fertile, you can just throw them away because there’s obviously nothing inside them. But from the your post, you said you bought another one a few weeks before she laid the eggs- if that other beardy you bought is a male, there’s a huge chance the eggs can be fertile. If they are fertile, you can buy an incubator and do the necessary procedures, or you can freeze them for a few days and then throw them away. You can’t just throw them away because there have been a few claims of them hatching in the garbage. Either I wish you luck! And definitely do a lot of research- I do…its fun
my breaded dragon layed her first eggs lastnight and some of them are a yellow color just need to knw if they are any good are not if anyone can help that would be great
You can try candling them to see if you see any signs of an embryo. Milwaukee Reptiles has a great page on how to do it. Christina’s right that some females will lay eggs even if they’ve never been with a male. If your beardie lives alone, you can be sure the eggs are infertile and safely discarded.
hi christina thank you for your advice. where do you get the incubators from ? my beardie has laid her 3rd batch of eggs the 2nd batch with male we now have.in her first batch with the male nothing came of any o the eggs there was 2 that had little black dots in but they was crushed.how long does it take roughly 4 the dragons 2 hatch?
im really unsure what 2 do with my beardies eggs this is her 2nd batch with the male n it been about 2 weeks since she laid the eggs but i dont have a incubater so there in the tank with the parents im not sure though if 2 check on them or just leave them alone 4 a while longer
Hi. I’m sorry Carly…I haven’t been on here in forever! But the eggs should definitely not be left in the tank. If you don’t have an incubator, someone I know used a heating pad under the container (container should have moist vermiculite- read up on how to care for bearded dragons, or email me at myspace0123@yahoo.com). If you want to buy an incubator, check ebay or just type in the search engine where to buy an incubator. Most incubators are for chicken eggs but they all do the same thing so almost any will work. Just make sure you have them at the right temperature (82-84 is what I keep mine at) and just sit and wait about 65-75 days (there is minimal work mantaining humidity- spraying around the eggs ect). I am on my 3rd clutch hatching out (today actually). I have had an 99.9% hatch rate (wish i could say 100% but one beardie never fully developed and ended up passing *sad*) Anyway, I wish you luck. But like I said before, if your female didn’t have a male around, more then likely theyre not fertile. Also- never go off of the color of the egg whether they are fertile or not. When my beardie laid eggs, they were kind of yellow, everyone told me they weren’t fertile…definitely not true because they all hatched out! They are all so very beautiful and 100% healthy!
Also Jodi and Carly- If you’d like to see my babies, send me an email. The first clutch is gone and the second will be ready to go next week. Like I said earlier, the 3rd is hatching out today. The 4th clutch will be ready within the next month. I know- a lot of babies right?! They are absolutely beautiful!! They are all so so very colorful- breeders are jealous! lol Shoot me an email so I can show you guys pics k?!
Thanks

my female does not have a male but she is laying eggs by the dozens every 2 weeks and lots of them look fertile but she either eats them or she burries them and then eats them. What do i do?
