Heat map plugin not counting properly

Well, I was happy with the heat map until I realized the counts were off. After going in and retagging my posts using the categories, it appears the heat map did not update with the new counts. I searched the author’s comments and the forum at WordPress, but found nothing other than another user with the same problem.

After searching around a bit, I found the Category Tagging plugin. This plugin seems to do exactly what the heatmap plugin does, plus some. I installed the plugin and using the instructions on the download page I was able to quickly generate the tag cloud I wanted in my sidebar.

This plugin also gives the option of showing related posts. This is handy so users don’t have to browse by page in a category - they can simply look in the sidebar for a bulleted list. The sort can be random or by date. I don’t have an incredible amount of posts yet, so I’m setting it for date for now. I may switch that to random if I see the older posts are being lost.

Now, if I could only find a counter to show how many times each post is actually viewed.

  1. Hi there! I was having the same problem with the heat map plugin…it’s including my draft posts in the count as well. It’s especially obvious in mine as I have a category that has no published post but one draft post and that category is showing up in my cloud. No solutions as yet, unfortunately…

  2. You may want to take a look at Ultimate Tag Warrior. It has built-in functions for creating a heat map and you can get the companion UTW widget to show the tag cloud in your sidebar.
