My newest favorite comedy show - The Colbert Report
My husband was away recently on a business trip to the other coast. While he was away, I stayed up later than usual since I wasn’t sleeping well anyway. During my late nights, I stumbled across The Colbert Report on Comedy Central. It only took one show to get me hooked.
At first, it’s easy to mistake Colbert as a serious talk show. He interviews top names in the political arena, asking hard-hitting questions. Many of those interviewed are unsure whether to laugh or answer the question.
During one of his interviews, he asked the interviewee if he was really Italian because his name didn’t end in a vowel. Colbert maintained his straight face and serious mannerisms through the entire interview, even when the politician was clearly unsure of what was expected of him.
This type of absurd take on today’s political situation is more accurate than the evening news. Colbert has questioned things like do we still need Philadelphia and the use of double-stick tape to hold a swimsuit in place. Perhaps, most notably, he has introduced the word “Truthiness” into our vocabulary.
His quiet intensity makes him interesting and entertaining. His ability to create humor from any topic is truly impressive. So entertained am I that I’ve put his video RSS feed here on the blog.
If you’re looking for a truly refreshing look at the world, take a few minutes and watch one of his video clips. You’ll be hooked, I’m sure.
