Wilma leaves and fall arrives

Fortunately, Wilma crossed the state quickly on Monday. Being just north of Orlando, we had a lot of rain and some steady winds, but nothing very damaging. The schools were closed (which I think was a good idea), as were most local businesses.

Watching the news reports, it looks like Wilma really caused havoc with the power grids in South Florida. The latest report I heard this morning said that it will be up to 3 weeks before power is restored in some areas. As soon as Wilma left the area on Monday, we were greeted with some very chilly air. While last week we saw above normal temperatures (averaging in the mid-80s), this week it hasn’t made it up past 70 yet. I’m all for the cool weather, but this abrupt shift was very unusual.

I actually had to kick the heater on for the last few nights because it was just too cool without it. During the day, I’ve been able to open the windows and that has been a nice change.

It certainly feels like winter is just around the corner. I guess that means I need to get started on my holiday shopping. Maybe if I start now I can have it done by Thanksgiving!
